Hi, I’m Zoe!
I’m the person behind Zoe Writes Theatre. And I figured it’s high time I tell people about me.
Theatre has been my life and my passion for thirty years…which is a good chunk of time when you’re only 35. I grew up in the theatre, and I’m completely certain I will always have theatre in my life in one way or another. I’m currently working a full time job in a health food grocery store (which I love!), so Zoe Writes Theatre is keeping me grounded in theatre. I am also a writer, so having a theatre blog is a beautiful combination of my two worlds. Zoe Writes Theatre has truly been a labor of love.
I have Bipolar Disorder, and theatre has saved my life from the time I was young. I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for numerous classes, ensembles, and of course, friends. I could never be without theatre in my life in one way or another. No matter what else I do, it’s still my passion. The theatre community is truly a unique one, and I’m so grateful to find myself here.
I spent my life acting, and at a much later date, realized I like stage managing a lot more. That became something I really fell into. I’ve worked on professional shows, as well as spending many years with a youth ensemble. That was where I found my true love. Sometimes I miss acting, but as fun as it would be to get up there again, it’s no longer my place. But that’s totally okay! There are so many ways to love theatre.
Some fun personal stuff about me! I’m queer and non-binary (they/them pronouns, please!) I love piercings and tattoos, and I have blue hair. I’m married to the most amazing woman in the world…we live in the Philly suburbs with our two cats. Other than blogging, I write a lot of other stuff from novels to collaboration to fanfiction. I absolutely love queer coming of age stories in all forms, books, TV shows, movies, etc. I love to read…my favorite book is The House in the Cerulean Sea (go read it!)
Whether I’m out there seeing a show, writing a post, conducting interviews, or writing about theatre in general, I’m, at the core, someone who loves theatre. It’s a big piece of who I am, and I’m so delighted at how Zoe Writes Theatre is growing. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
